Esqueci-me de mencionar que este post me foi enviado pelo Joaquín Gólfez, através do seu BlackBerry.

Ao que sei, Joaquín está no Algarve a dar apoio ao sobrinho...

The Victoria Club de Golf is one of Europe's finest courses. This Arnold Palmer design features 22 lakes with an overall area of 12 hectares. The course will be a great test for the players competing in the World Golf Championships-2005 Algarve World Cup in Portugal in November.

The following gives the name and brief description of each hole.

No. 1, The Olive Corner
Par 4, 408 meters
This medium length par 4 requires an accurate tee shot to avoid the olive trees that line this hole.

No. 2, The Peregrine Falcon
Par 4, 327 meters
This hole gradually leads to the higher portion of the course and leaves the area where the lakes are predominant.

No. 3, Environmental Gates
Par 5, 517 meters
The challenging third is played between magnificent carob trees and ends at an elevated green protected by two sets of bunkers.

No. 4, The Purple Heron
Par 4, 372 meters
The fourth is a dogleg that is highlighted by an old aqueduct and the entrance to Vilamoura's Environmental Park, which both outline the hole.

No. 5, The White Storks
Par 5, 529 meters
The challenging par 5 will be reachable in two for the long hitters if they hit the fairway off the tee.

No. 6, The Chameleon
Par 3, 199 meters
Par is a good score on this challenging hole that features views of the Algarve mountain range.

No. 7, Tough Hole
Par 4, 417 meters
The name says it all. Players will have to avoid a lake off the tee and will face a challenging green.

No. 8, The Blackbird
Par 3, 154 meters
The shortest hole on the course features a large waste bunker. Players will expect a birdie on this hole.

No. 9, The Carob Tree
Par 5, 404 meters
This medium length par 4 has a raised green defended by two small, but treacherous bunkers.

No. 10, The Mirage
Par 4, 371 meters
This hole's green has a lake as a backdrop, giving an illusion that it is reachable from the tee in spite of being 380 meters away.

No. 11, The Mallard
Par 4, 352 meters
The first hole of the Victoria Corner (Nos. 11, 12 and 13) provides the pros with a viable birdie opportunity.

No. 12, Roman Ruins
Par 5, 500 meters
This par 5 is reachable in two shots and features a beach bunker that leads into a lake.

No. 13, The Purple Gullinule
Par 3, 183 meters
This picturesque par 3 features lakeside views.

No. 14, Double Fairway
Par 4, 388 meters
This unique hole has a double fairway and a green that seems to be suspended above a waterfall.

No. 15, The Kestrel
Par 4, 288 meters
The short 15th runs parallel with a vast sandy area that plays as a waste bunker.

No. 16, The Azure Winged Magpie
Par 3, 190 meters
The town of Vilamoura is visible in the background on this par 3.

No. 17, Victoria Falls
Par 5, 538 meters
The 17th is the Victoria's signature hole. A number of waterfalls gush from below the green towards the tees on the right-hand side of the fairway.

No. 18, The Kingfisher
Par 4, 423 meters
This challenging finishing hole winds alongside a lake that spans the left side of the hole.

England is the defending champions, although their lineup will change. Last year, Luke Donald and Paul Casey earned the trophy, while this year Donald will be joined by David Howell, the 19th-ranked player in the world.

Spain, represented by Sergio Garcia and Miguel Angel Jimenez, the sixth and 28th-ranked players in the Official World Golf Ranking respectively, will be looking to win the event for the fifth time in the event's 52-year history. Last year, the duo came up one stroke short, finishing runner-up to England in their home country.
